Prol – the new release by Berlin based outlier and producer Hannah S. aka Omen – is a work of scathing and crooked degeneration that hurls together battered late capitalist synth pop, defective cassette dub, combative scraps of industrial noise and traces of deliriously unsound vocal R&B.

Through the means of subverted presets and samples, half broken sound toys, stylophones and liberally calibrated effects pedals, Hannah creates a splintered and skewed perspective across twelve tracks that contend with ill-fated relationships, narcissism, hedonism, admiration, repulsion and all the other usual – and unusual – consequences of shared experience under untrammelled capital.

Intermittently written and recorded between 2015 and 2019 across Berlin, Australia & Peru, Prol transmits a sharply delivered sense of fracture and disorientation that is at once caustic, languorous and euphoric. Electronics trail off down perverse paths, snarling dissonances and scorching in-the-red tremors of low end burst at the seams, vocals are caught between sour, satirical disaffection and astute, fervent appreciation. The results are myriad, disorderly, not easily contained, a case of cutting across different extremes yet somehow remaining a united conception even amidst severe contrasts.

V - No Return

No Return is an anthem in my opinion, and one that nicely reflects a youth misspent in Berlin where the track was recorded. The music video, a work of art, was made by Martina Schöne-Radunski. V and I will be playing several dates together in August this year across Germany, Netherlands and Denmark.

    Tonetta embraces the grotesque while keeping things upbeat, unifying all human emotions and bodily functions under the banner of Rock ‘n’ Roll. I am a big fan of Tonetta’s music videos; I love the aesthetic; the horniness and the party vibes.

  • Get Choong And Look At The Sky

    These two (Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland) and their various manifestations are prolific which makes it hard to pick favorites. This particular video has that hazy lo-fi thing going on that makes Hype Williams music so special and was a rare nugget of footage way back when.

  • Primitive Calculators - I Can't Stop It

    During my formative years in Australia when my peers and I were hell bent on No New York, buried gems of the Australian underground began popping up in our peripheries. Primitive Calculators were particularly significant, especially for the late Shaun South; a friend of mine and central figure in the D.I.Y music scene in his time. He was an advocate of „synth punk“ when everyone around us were playing guitars. This is a track of theirs is laid over beautiful live footage of them playing in a backyard.

    Phil Thomas Katt is a legend of the underground. The video is absolutely magical and was first shown to me by a dear friend who now produces music under the moniker MOON WHEEL.

    From the time in which i still believed one minute songs were the best kind of songs. I was obsessed with this whole album when I was about 15. The lyrics are deranged and sentimental. My older sister’s best friend had a copy of tape in the car, so I first heard it riding around in the passenger seat on the east coast in Australia, where I went to high school.

    This is a track my best friend Katrina was playing often while we were living together in Berlin in 2014. It was a winter in which it’d get dark at 4pm and you’d just want to start drinking booze.

  • Mafia Der Liebe Pt.1

    This track is a reworking of Andy Stott’s track Violence by Kristallo Ronaldo and DJ TAXHAM. I like how the vocals seem kind of delirious and improvised and the lyrics (sung in german) ’cause they’re pretty basic yet kind of psycho. I find this video stylistically special too.
