Influences: Demuja

Music

In recent years Demuja is a name which has appeared with increasing regularity – the Austrian producer has amassed a reputation for his take on modern day house music and has been firmly supported by the likes of labels such as Freerange, Skylax, Lost Palms and Toy Tonics. However, it is most recently that the producer has taken his most promising next step having managed to charm Kerri Chandler with his musical ingenuity.

Madhouse Records released a 12" EP by the producer earlier this year and now he is set to follow up with his first full length debut album on his own imprint.

In keeping with the release we invited Demuja to select some influences which have helped inspire across the years as he digs well beyond music. See below:

Pulp Fiction

I just love how Quentin Tarantino brings emotions and feelings on screen and to people. Its not only “Pulp Fiction”, its almost every movie he’s made. As I started with making movies in school (long before Djing or Producing), he was a big influence for me (Besides other classic movies from this time) and in a way, movies and music have the same effect on people: bringing them for some time into a different world and letting them forget their problems.

Bboying

I don’t know ANY other scene in this world, which is working so hard to reach their goals, this was a big influence for me, if you want to become good (or the best) in bboying / dancing, you need to practice EVERY day (no matter if it’s Christmas, if you are on holiday or if you have an anniversary with your girl) and thats what we (me and my crew) did back then – we went to practice every single day right after school/work, stayed there as long as possible. After practise, we went home, watched breakdance-videos on the internet and did battles/shows almost every weekend.

as i got into producing and djing, it was “natural” for me to work every day 24/7 on it to reach my goal. Unfortunately, i knew, both things (bboying and producing/djing) were too much one day – as i grew older (and fatter haha) producing & djing caught me!

tbh, I’m sick of people who are telling me “I REALLY want this” but they only give 50%.
sounds cliché, but if you want something, you really need to work your ass off. “one hit wonders” are rare…
Olav Basoski - Waterman

Besides his track “de muja” (yes, thats right.. :)) this was the first “house” track I’d ever heard. I was a Drum’n’Bass / Hiphop – DJ at this time, and a friend of mine showed me this track. since then, this one was on 24/7 and I started getting more and more into House-music.
Ray Charles - I Got A Woman

When I stared drumming, I was a lot into Jazz, Soul & Gospel (a bit different than “I Got A Woman”) but I was simply amazed by that kind of music and as I wasn’t able to dig that deep into that style (you know, I’m from the country side in Austria. there is only “Volksmusik”), Ray Charles was one of the first artists I found out about (besides James Brown, Miles Davis…) I was amazed, how he brings that “good mood” and energy to people (I still am).
