How can you be a vocal led group yet have no vocalist present on stage? Now there's a question….

KUF have demonstrated ingenuity and experimentalism through their strong willed approach to sampling and vocal rearrangement. The three part German group have amassed a reputation for dazzling real time performances which see them rework and reinvent previously recorded vocal samples and reinterperet them based upon the present environment within which they appear. This is perhaps best described by themselves…

"All vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboardist Tom Schneider melds and bends and squeezes in real time. With no artificial synchronization in place, Valentin Link on bass and Hendrik Havekost on drums push the disembodied, highly abstract voices into an arena of hyperintegrated realtime trio interplay."

They are notoriously hard to place, difficult to categorise and will not be put under an umbrella. Their music merges a sprawling array of influences and blends the delicacies of jazz alongside the imposing force of brutalist techno and electronics. It's all pretty special.

They will play at f(t) festival at Radialsystem V in Berlin on the 29th of April. A perfect opportunity for us to chat to them and discuss musical roots…

Dj Fulltono - Freaky Fall

We met DJ Fulltono on tour at Club Metro in Kyoto. He played an outstanding set that night, introducing us to his minimalistic unique pattern-layering footwork sound. We highly recommend his record ‘Theatre 1’.

  • Mr Oizo - Analog Worms Attack (Full Album)

Another all-time favourite for long rides in the tour van. We dig Mr Oizo’s early record ‘Analog Worms Attack’ for its raw and wonky vibe. We once read that it usually takes him only about three to four hours to finish a track and we think on this one you can hear that sometimes quick ideas are the best. Some tracks are also nice examples for the beauty of unquantized beats.

  • Endstation Freiheit

On our first tour to Japan in 2016 we got to know a club called Bonobo in Tokyo. This track comes from the owner’s cassette mixtape called ‘Bonobo Hits’. Absolutely great selection of nice tunes that always reminds us of this unique place. Definitely our favourite mixtape in the tour van.

  • Sd Laika - Great God Pan

We admire the heavy energy and the dark atmosphere.

  • Stefan Goldmann - The Outness Queens (Music Video)

This track is from Stefan Goldmann’s album ’17:50′. Track and video are great. Also make sure to listen to the album ‘Industry’.

  • Dean Blunt - The Pedigree

This album was one of the most played records in our tour van for a long time. We listened to it while driving through the Czech winter, the foggy English countryside and on countless highways by night on the way home.

  • Kyle Hall & The Qur'an -Sticky Ripz -The Making Of...

You gotta love Kyle Hall for his flow and the joy he has making beats and just messing around with ideas while he is jamming. Just look at how inspired and energized he is during the process!

  • Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Piano Nights (Full Album, 2014)

Finest doom jazz from Mühlheim an der Ruhr. Everytime we need music that is cooling down we listen to these tunes. Really impressive tempo.
