Spread The Knowledge! Ransom Note To Host Series Of Talks In Rye Wax
Not content with filling your social media with rave related meanderings, throwing the occasional party, and steadily mis-managing our record label all the way to the top, we've decided it's time for Ransom Note to turn our shambolic attention onto a new arena: the heady world of CHAT.
Like a splendid hybrid of acid house and Alan Partridge, we're going to be hosting a series of monthly talks in Peckham's finest record shop / party spot Rye Wax. Starting from tomorrow (yeah, I know we should have told you earlier, but thems the breaks) the Ransom Note Communion will see us inviting some of our favourite DJs, writers, drunks and racounteurs to entertain a live audience (and the watching hordes on Facebook) with lectures and Q&As on a range of subjects that get us hot under the collar.
Our first guest is none other than House Hunting's Aiden d'Araujo, in conversation with Ransom Note's Ian McQuaid, discussing the career, impact and legacy of Boyd Jarvis. Jarvis has claim to writing one of the first house tracks (the dub mix of The Music Got Me, recently reissued on our own label), and has had a career that has spanned decades and included him working with legends from Larry levan to Tony Humphries. We'll be picking through Aiden's vast knowledge to discuss Boyd's seminal early tracks, his lesser known later productinos, the records he went on to inspire, and maybe even a bit on the process of licensing a reissue from a house legend. Expect to hear original vinyl, watch some rare footage, and ask whatever questions you may have. The session concludes with a vinyl auction of rare NYC/ Chciago house classics – if you've ever encountered Aiden at a record fair you know he's got the juice…!

The Ransom Note Communion will be taking place on the third Tuesday of the month from Feb – May.
