8 Tracks: Of Voyage With Vitalic

Very few producers have managed to tap into a sound which allows them to bridge the divide. Vitalic has become notoriously known globally for his take on some sort of electro come techno crossover which has led him to appear on big stages around the world. However, those that are familiar with his roots will know that his range of influences and his commitment to the odd and eclectic runs deep. This year he took many by surprise when he appeared on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant label with an ep which incorporated abstract cheese with hard edged electro. It was the perfect switch up and indicated the strength of a producer who is still very much relevant in 2016.

January of next year will see Vitalic return with a new album on Caroline International which is simply titled "Voyager". We caught up with him to talk tracks of travel.

This song is taken from the soundtrack of Oliver Stone’s movie. I remembered being so shocked the first time i would heard it as a kid kid. The song is very direct but epic at the same time. The arabic lead creates a strong contrast with the martial synthetic bass. An inspirational classic.

Sail Away - The Rapture

In the 00s, alongside LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture were one of the coolest bands in the world. They have this NYC classy and punky touch and the voice of the lead singer is very distinguishable. This song is kind of timeless. It could have been produced 30 years ago or last year. What makes the Rapture great is their NYC retro disco punk twist combined with epic melodies.
Agar Agar - Cuidado, Peligro, Eclipse

Agar Agar are a new but hotly topped Parisian band. The song is not about travelling really, but the repetition of the 3 random spanish word is very hyptnotic. Like a magic formula to enter another world. its the number one hit on my tourbus since the new tour started a month ago – i love them
Rebolledo / Pow Pow / Official Video

Rebolledo’s sets are totally trippy. So are his productions, which are 8 minute exctatic disco tracks. I don’t understand the words on this one, but the crazy effect on the voice makes me think of incantations of an aborigine tribe from a remote island.
Jamie Xx - Gosh

This is precisely the song i would like to hear if i was onboard the International Space Station and i would see an Earthset. To me, consmic travelling is the ultimate trip. The video of this track fits perfectly.
Acid Arab - "Sayarat 303"

The concept behind Acid Arab is about mixing folk instruments together with drum machines and synths. It’s not new but they are particularly good at that. They called their album Musique de France and its an ironic and funny name because their songs make a bridge between the two cultures.
Rone - Parade (Dominik Eulberg Remix)

Rone is appart on the French scene and he has his very own stories to tell. The melody is a powerful and melancholic loop that drives me both happy and sad. This song is the perfect soundtrack to dive from a small boat into the transparent waters of Formentera after an heavy night clubbing
Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene Part 2

This song is a good sonic example of how we would dream space trips in the 70s. Since i was a kid, i was crazy about the sudden acceleration effect. The track has some sensorial dimension that touches me a lot, and i try to make that in my music too.
