Man Parrish - Hip Hop, Be Bop (Don't Stop) [Hq]

Like walking on the moon. All that air in the track is just sublime. It still makes me feel dizzy. My first introduction to a brave new funky world. Timeless. Makes me want to moonwalk again.

  • Man Parrish - Hip Hop, Be Bop (Don't Stop) [Hq]

Like walking on the moon. All that air in the track is just sublime. It still makes me feel dizzy. My first introduction to a brave new funky world. Timeless. Makes me want to moonwalk again.

  • Hashim - Al Naafiysh (The Soul)

One of the first tracks that might have made me realise how powerful instrumental music can be. It´s funky as hell but also scary in a odd way. Essential electro!

  • Arthur Baker-Breaker's Revenge

Arthur Baker needs no introduction. But I discovered the track while trying to learn how to to Break Dance. The film Beat Street showed me the way. I was studying this scene over and over:

  • Chris "The Glove" Taylor & Dave Storrs - Itchiban Scratch 1984

This track still sounds so fresh today! The sound and production is just ace. It´s raw and unpolished. I think I discovered the magic of sampling through this tune.

  • Beat Bop - Rammellzee + K-Rob

Scary, funky and and an honest poetic vision/nightmare on life (in every sense). A masterpiece. Absolutely brilliant! Really got under my skin. I later found out it was produced by Basquiat. That made it even more mysterious.

  • The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel (Long Version)

Important in so many ways. I´ve always loved the way so many different kicks are incorporated in one mix. The term Megamix comes to my mind (not sure if anyone uses that word anymore). So many kicks and highlights in this tracks. Made me believe that anything is allowed in music.

  • Mantronix - Needle To The Groove

I was drawn to Mantronix basically because I saw this great cover (I wanted to go to that party). To me it looked like a futuristic or unknown world I wanted to dive into. And the track sent me into a trance. It also led me to discover the magic world of Sleeping Bag records later on. Like Arthur Russell record´s for instance.

  • Marley Marl Feat. Mc Shan - Marley Marl Scratch

It´s the rawness that drew me into this one. Every record that had Marley Marl written on it would be something I would collect. The sound of those beats, ah!!! Also, there´s something vulnerable within the production. Difficult to explain, puh!

  • Art Of Noise - Beat Box - 1984

Just a very mysterious band in every way. Again, look at the artwork. I still have my 7 inch from way back. That picture still scares the baby in me. It´s hard to describe what that music did to me, but it sure as hell affected me in different ways.

  • Style Wars(1983)

I would watch this documentary over and over. I saw it on Swedish television way back, recorded it later and studied it like a science project. Here it was, a subculture I didn´t know anything about. And you learn that everything is connected; the music, the poetry and the art. All melted into one. My own private education. Just fab!
