Influences: D.K.

It reminds me of my early club experiences when we were still listening to some New Jack Swing and R’n’B, it was back in 97/98.
This track by 2 Tuff samples 2 other tracks which totally marked my teen years : Family Stand – Ghetto Heaven and En Vogue – Hold On (probably the best R’n’B instrumental ever made). 2 Tuff is one of the numerous aliases of Toyin Agbetu who also composed some mind-blowing House cuts (like « After The Storm ») under his Nemesis guise.

Addis Posse aka Anthony Thorpe is a British artist I admire, mostly for his singularity and versatility. He was part of groups like 400 Blows and composed under a lot of different aliases like the Moody Boys or House Addicts. It’s the kind of producer who was definitely influenced by the UK underground music scene which was popular at the time (like Dub, House and UK Garage) but kept proposing interesting and singular. And I think it’s pretty rare.

Unit Moebius – Disco LP originally released on Disko B is one of the first Techno albums I bought. I’m still discovering or rediscovering some excellent and less industrial cuts they did, like this one which suits me more.

I wasn’t really into Techno before I listened to Cristian Vogel’s music. By then, I hadn’t really experienced that kind of raw and industrial music. That definitely marked me. Since then, I’ve been fascinated by records from labels like Tresor, Sativae or Peacefrog.

In my opinion, and that’s unfortunate, they never really did another a record that good again. The whole « Return Of The Durutti Column » LP is incredible and inspired my new album « Island Of Dreams » a lot.

I like the aquatic and digital sound of that track. I’ve been super influenced by video games soundtracks from the 90’s/00’s, especially by the FM synths that were used back then. This soundtrack was composed by Sakamoto for a video game called « Lack Of Love » on Sega Dreamcast.

The Alien LP from which Micro Gravity is taken from is probably my favorite record from Larry Heard. This is actually a record I put aside for many years because I was more attracted to his other Mr Fingers and Gherkin Jerks tracks which seemed more effective to me at that time. I guess I didn’t quite get the emotion and complex simplicity emanating from his more ambient cuts around then. It’s funny because it’s clearly this aspect of the music I’m now exploring for my music these days.

I’ve always been into that kind of nostalgic Funk that makes you want to get behind a Cadillac wheel. This track is the very first release of Studio Records which have been more dedicated to Electro Funk and House music stuff after that.
