8 Tracks: With Solar Bears

I discovered Blawan through Girl Band’s weird and wonderful reimagining of “Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage”. There is a purity to Blawan’s sound design and feel that I adore. Slow Mick has a rare kind of momentum. It makes me think of a swinging pendulum.

This scratches a certain itch. Lean and mean. I find this relentless attack mode refreshing and strangely relaxing.

Used to have Desert Scores by Ian O’Brien and Tiny Reminders by Two Lone Swordsmen on a constant loop walking around Dublin. I found those two albums complimented each other really well. Eurydice make me feel nostalgic and a longing for the future at the same time. Kind of euphoric limbo.

Kilnn is a new collaboration between my good friend Chris and I. We’ve been focusing on working quickly, late at night, with very little equipment and find it to be highly therapeutic. Rural Pain is our first production. I felt this mix was a good place to introduce it to other ears.

Datassette was recommended to me by Andy from Letherette last year, since then I have delved into his work quite a lot. “Fever Dream” would definitely be the type of thing I would play in a set. Especially fond of this and his Interpol cover of “Untitled”. Both bring me back to the days of playing Commodore 64 games as a kid.

Rian led me to this track. He’s been a hero of ours for a very long time. I really appreciate his melodic side and ability with timing. Only wish he would produce more in the same joyous vein. Brilliant riff.

Strongest album of 2014 for me. It was really pleasing to see him finally get credit in some quarters. A breakthrough on every level and his remix work since has been exceptional, notably his take on Max Richter’s “Path 5”.

Again something I would play late at night. “Acidisco” is one of the finest tracks of that era or any other. Stills sounds as fresh as when it originally came out. Always has the same reaction from people no matter where you are.
