Invada Allstars Cover 99 Red Balloons To Support Anti-Trident Protest
A mystery crew going by the name of Invada Allstars have put together a cover of anti war classic 99 Red Balloons. Recorded to coincide with tomorrows 'Stop Trident National Demo', the track has emerged from Bristol's Invada Studios, so we're guessing Geoff 'Portishead' Barrow has a hand in it somewhere… Whoever has done it has a canny grasp on the history of bashment – they've spliced the melody of 99 Red Balloons with the classic Sleng Teng bassline, a foundation of modern dancehall music.
According to a statement released by Invada Allstars
"Trident and its cost: the government is in favour of replacing Trident at a cost of around £100 billion. This money would be enough to fully fund A&E services for 40 years, employ 150,000 new nurses, build 1.5 million affordable homes, build 30,000 new primary schools, or cover tuition fees for 4 million students."
All proceeds from the sale will go to CND. The demo itself is taking place 12 noon on Saturday 27 February 2016, starting in Marble Arch, London, before marching on to Trafalgar Square where a range of political and celebrity speakers will contribute.
