Russia Develops Autonomous Robot Army
Hi, and welcome back to another episode in the all-too-regular Ransom Note column we like to think of as SKYNET WATCH. This week, our friends over in Russia appear to have made another bold leap forward in the quest to hand the world over to maurading, man-hating robotic overlords. According to Futurism.com, Putin's boys working at the United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (OPK) have been experimenting with an autonomous robotic control system going under the name of Unicum (which, admittedly, sounds like a frowning, utilitarian fi-fi). It turns out that this is bad news for humans – to quote:
"OPK has successfully conducted a test involving ten robots – with one assigned as a “commander” of the task force. The test results show that they could “locate targets, choose dominating positions on a battlefield, request target elimination validation from human operators and eliminate the targets.” They could also request for immediate replacements for disabled machines. Overall, the software was able to make decisions and act on them without the need for human intervention."
Let's just re-cap that last line again –
"was able to make decisions and act on them without the need for human intervention."
………!!!!!
