Review: Thool – The Dome

Music

While there are countless labels out there happy to trudge through a furrow of someone else's making, DEEK keep on merrily going their own way. The Dome from newcomer Thool is a perfect example. Whilst it starts off in relatively recognisable, vaguely chillwave fashion, a desert mirage of hanging, ethereal strings and echoing snare patterns, after 2 minutes Thool drops a brick of a bassline, sounding like he's channeling Miami Vice era Jan Hammer, before chucking in a load of New Age-y synth work. If Maurice Fulton were to slip on some loafers and chance his hand at instrumental yacht rock I'm guessing the results wouldn't be a million miles off, and what more recommendation do you need?
