Review: Beppe Loda – Obscure Cuts 2: Italian Arabic Disco

We're happy to say that this release is exactly what it claims to be; 4 cuts of obscure Italo disco glittering with Arabic influence. So what your getting is a healthy wack of space kazbah sounds, with wah wah guitars and thumping kick drums pumping under mysterious minor key melodies and shimmering, exotic instrumentation. It's all fairly camp and it's easy to imagine the sinuous instrumental opener Arabian Dance soundtracking a harem scene in a 70s Carry On flick. The sole vocal cut, Mustafa, is a real curiousity, featuring some kind of Arabian Ian Dury barking over a fatback disco beat. Right now I can't work out if it's genius or crap- either way it's definitely remarkable. The comp has been released by German party promoters Oscillator; compiler and long standing champion of leftfield dance music Beppe Loda is the club's resident.
