Raw: Natural Born Artists Showcase – ‘Current’

RAW: Natural Born Artists presents this year’s London debut of new and emerging talent from locally based south east artists. 

Originally created in the states as a platform for emerging talent to be showcased in the public eye, RAW began as opportunity for those in the early stages of their creative careers to be seen and made accessible to the public, ultimately created by artists for artists. However now spreading its wings RAW has begun its journey into an international collaboration taking place in a handful the major cities around the world including LA, Perth, London and soon to come Tokyo. 

This year’s event ‘CURRENT’ will take place in Brick Lane and is set to be the stage for 35 young new artist that stretch the breath of the creative sector, including visual artists; printmakers, painters and photographers, as well as performance artists and short dance productions. To musical debuts from local acoustic artists to DJ sets that will bring the night to an end. This mini creative festival also includes the worlds of fashion and design as it incorporates new talents from shoe designers to make up artists as well as clothes designers and stylists putting on a spread of catwalk shows throughout the evening. All of this is then topped off with two film screenings aiming to transform the evening into an all-encompassing artistic extravaganza, completely open to the public.

Raw was created specifically as an approachable platform for new and emerging artists of every calibre and practice to feel supported and guided through their early stages of their career, as well as scouting out new talent and providing a forum for artistic and public interaction. 

This year’s event is set to embrace more kinds of creative talent than you could shake a stick at and reminds me of the breadth of artistic styles and disciplines that are available in our contemporary society. Working from the simple basis of collaboration the showcase is set to merge the minds of young creatives and generate a miniature eco system, incorporating every kind of the continuously changing world of art and design.
